About this grant / loan
What you get
You get fast help if you run out of money while studying at Manchester Metropolitan University. There are two options. The first is a bridging loan of up to about EUR 280 (240 GBP). This is an interest-free short-term loan that you repay when your next maintenance loan instalment arrives. A maintenance loan is the UK student loan meant to cover living costs. The second is crisis support: a supermarket voucher worth about EUR 58 (50 GBP) for food and basics, or a small cash payment for a specific emergency that a voucher cannot solve. You do not have to pay back crisis support. Both are run by the university's Student Financial Support Team.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled on a course at Manchester Metropolitan University. This is only for Manchester Met students.
- Financial need: You have very low funds and can show your current bank balances when you apply.
- For the loan: You receive a UK maintenance loan (from SFE, SFNI, SFW or SAAS) or your payment is delayed.
- For crisis support: You have used up all your other funding options.
- How often: Usually once per academic year, unless your situation is exceptional.
How to apply
There is no deadline. You can apply whenever you need help. Call the Student Financial Support Helpline, open Monday to Friday. The team talks through your situation and may email you a short form for the right fund. You get a decision within five working days.
How realistic are your chances?
This is need-based emergency help, not a contest. It is only for Manchester Met students who can prove they have almost no money left. If you are enrolled, genuinely out of funds and can show your bank balances, you are likely to get support. The amounts are small and meant to bridge a short crisis, not to fund your studies long term.
