About this scholarship
What you get
You get a cash payment plus free services if you study in Liguria and your family income is low. The cash runs from about 1,446 EUR to 3,407 EUR net per year. On top of that you get at least one free daily meal at ALiSEO canteens. If you move away from home to study and ask for a place, you also get free accommodation in an ALiSEO residence (worth 2,600 EUR of your award). You are also exempt from university fees and the regional right-to-study tax. How much you get depends on your income band and on whether you live near the university or move away for it. The grant comes from ALiSEO, the student support agency of the Liguria region, funded by the Italian recovery plan and EU Next Generation EU funds.
Who can apply
- University: You study at the University of Genoa, or at an art or music higher education institution (AFAM) based in Liguria.
- Level: You are a bachelor's, master's, single-cycle master's (5 or 6 years), two-year specialisation or PhD student. It counts only for your first qualification at each level.
- Field of study: Any subject qualifies. Some female-only STEM courses get an extra top-up.
- Income: Your family's university ISEE (an official measure of household income and assets) is 28,339 EUR or less. Below 18,893 EUR you get the higher amount.
- Grades: First-year students need no marks to apply, but must earn 20 credits during the year to keep the full grant. Later-year students must meet set credit thresholds.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply. Non-EU students living in Italy who ask for a residence place count as living away from home, unless their family lives in Italy.
How to apply
You apply online through the ALiSEO website. For the 2026/2027 year the window runs from 15 June 2026 to noon on 31 July 2026. Foreign students without an Italian digital ID register with their passport instead. A provisional ranking appears around mid-October and the final one by the end of November.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not a prize you win against others. It is a right-to-study grant, so anyone who meets the income and credit rules and applies in time is entitled to it. If your family ISEE is under the limit and you keep up with your credits, your prospects are strong. Apply as soon as the window opens and make sure your income documents are complete, because incomplete papers get you excluded.
