About this grant / loan
What the Alumni Discount gives you
You get a 10% cut on your tuition fees for a postgraduate course at the University of Leeds. The discount only applies to the part of the fees you pay yourself. That includes your own money, help from family or friends, or a UK government postgraduate loan. You do not receive cash. The university simply lowers the amount you owe. You can use the discount twice, for example first for a Master's and later for a research degree. It also combines with other Leeds scholarships and awards. The value depends on your course fees, so there is no fixed euro figure.
Who can apply
- Your past studies: You completed an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at the University of Leeds, the SWJTU-Leeds Joint School or an affiliated Leeds college. Finishing the Leeds International Summer School or a study abroad programme at Leeds also counts.
- Your next course: You are enrolling for a postgraduate qualification at Leeds, such as a taught Master's, a research degree or the Law LLB conversion course.
- Who pays: You pay at least part of your own fees. You cannot get the discount if a sponsor (employer, government, research council or charity) or the university covers your fees in full.
- Courses that count: The discount does not cover integrated undergraduate Master's degrees (such as MEng or MBiol), integrated PhDs, PGCE courses, jointly awarded degrees, or medicine and dentistry intercalated years.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply. There are no age, gender or residence restrictions.
How to apply
There is no application form and no deadline. If you qualify, the university adds the discount to your record automatically when you register for your course.
How realistic are your chances?
This is not a competitive award. There is no selection and no limited number of places. If you are a Leeds graduate paying at least part of your own fees for an eligible postgraduate course, you get the 10% discount automatically. The only thing that can rule you out is a sponsor covering your fees in full.
