About this scholarship

What you get

During its duration, this programme funded a one-year postgraduate course abroad: a Master’s or postgraduate degree at partner universities in the UK, Ireland or France. It covered tuition fees and living costs. It also included six-month technical training courses in Ghana, as well as shorter vocational courses. Tullow Oil funded the programme to build up skills in the host countries, particularly for the oil and gas industry.

Eligibility

  • Nationality: You were a citizen and legally resident in a participating country, such as Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Gabon, Suriname, Uruguay or Guyana. Preference was given to applicants from areas where Tullow operated.
  • Degree: You already hold at least a bachelor’s degree (grade ‘Second Class Lower’ or above), a ‘Licence Professionnelle’ or an HND (grade ‘Second Class Upper’ or above).
  • Field of study: A range of topics, with a focus on the skills required in the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience: You have gained work experience relevant to your chosen degree programme.
  • No prior overseas study: You had neither studied abroad nor received an international scholarship before.
  • Who could not apply: Employees of Tullow Oil, the British Council, their contractors and their immediate family members, as well as employees of other oil and gas companies working with Tullow.

How to apply

This programme has been discontinued. Tullow Oil and the British Council brought it to an end in 2016, and there are no plans for future overseas scholarships. The scholarship holders from cohorts 2014–2016 and 2015–2017 have completed their studies, but no new applications have been accepted since then.
