What the Platinum Performance Sports Scholarship gives you

You will receive a scholarship package worth approximately 1,265 EUR (roughly £1,500) for one academic year at University of Bedfordshire in the UK. This corresponds to the highest tier of the university’s ‘Sport Beds’ scholarship programme. The package includes a cash grant of approximately 930 EUR (£1,100), which is paid at the start of the academic year, as well as benefits in kind: sports science support, sports equipment and free membership of the university’s ‘Aspire’ gym. The funding runs for 12 months, so you will need to reapply each year that you wish to benefit from it. Please note that the university states that these amounts for the 2026/27 academic year are currently under review.

Who can apply

• University: You have been admitted to the University of Bedfordshire (Luton and Bedford campuses) or are already studying there on a full-time basis.
• Study level: You are an undergraduate or postgraduate student.
• Sporting level: You compete in your sport at national, international or an equivalent level.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Nationality: Students from the UK, the EU and other countries are eligible to apply.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted via the online form on the Sport Beds website. You must include evidence of your sporting ability, such as a letter on official letterhead or relevant certificates. The application deadlines are 15. July and on 31 October. The final decision is made by a panel consisting of a member of the academic staff, a representative of the Students’ Union and staff from Sport Beds. You may only apply for one scholarship level per year.

How realistic are your chances?

This is the highest of seven levels, which requires a genuine national or international competitive standard, which is why only a few athletes qualify for it. If you are clearly competing at this level and can provide evidence of this, your prospects are good. However, meeting the criteria does not guarantee that you will be awarded the scholarship, as a panel decides on this and funds are limited. Apply early and provide convincing evidence.
