Warwick Philosophy Scholarships and Bursaries

You get 50% of your tuition fees paid for a Master's or MPhil in Philosophy at the University of Warwick. The money is taken straight off your fees, so you get no cash in hand. For 2026/27 that means roughly 7,200 EUR per year (£6,210) if you pay Home fees, or roughly 14,700 EUR per year (£12,670) if you pay Overseas fees. Full-time courses are funded for one year. Part-time and two-year MPhil students get the award split evenly across both study years. The support comes from Warwick's Department of Philosophy through three schemes that differ only by where you come from.

Who can apply

• Course: You have applied for one of these Warwick programmes: MA Philosophy, MA Philosophy and the Arts, MA Continental Philosophy, or the two-year MPhil. You must apply for the course first; you cannot get the award without it.
• Where you come from: Any nationality can apply. One of three schemes fits you: UK-based students with Home fee status apply for the Philosophy Bursaries; students living in a continental European country apply for the European Scholarships; students living in a non-European country apply for the Global Scholarships.
• Study mode: You can study full-time or part-time.
• Grades: Selection is based only on academic merit, judged from your course application and supporting documents.
• Financial need: Not required. Your financial situation does not matter.
• Other funding: You may apply for other funding at the same time. But if you already get major tuition funding from elsewhere, you normally will not qualify.
• Priority: New applicants and people from groups underrepresented in philosophy are favoured, for example women, Black, Asian, Latina/o and Hispanic, Indigenous and LGBTQIA+ students, and students with a disability.

How to apply

You apply through Warwick's online scholarship form, which is the same for all three schemes and reopens in September. The deadline for 2026/27 funding is Friday, 1 May 2026. Everyone hears back within four weeks of that date.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is limited to applicants of one department's philosophy Master's and MPhil programmes, so the pool is much smaller than for university-wide scholarships. Because selection is based only on academic merit, a strong application decides it, and you do not need to prove financial hardship. If you clearly fit one of the three geographic schemes, and ideally belong to a group the department prioritises, your prospects are good.
