About this scholarship
Benefit
The Bischof Johann Weber Foundation pays EUR 750 per month (twelve payments a year) to students and trainees based in Graz, Austria. If you are not covered by compulsory health insurance, the foundation covers that cost too. The award is administered by the Diocese of Graz-Seckau through its Catholic University Community (KHG Graz) and depends on available funds. Four tracks are funded:
- Upper undergraduate: From the second part of a bachelor's degree onwards, for the standard programme length plus two extra semesters.
- Doctoral studies: Up to 30 months for a PhD at a Graz university.
- Teacher training: The full prescribed duration of a teacher-training programme, provided you already have a confirmed job offer in your home country.
- Further education: Short courses, seminars and training run by church, public adult-education or socially focused organisations.
Eligibility
- Origin: You come from Eastern, Central or South-Eastern Europe, the Near East, or a country affected by the Arab Spring.
- Where you study: Your programme is at a university or recognised institution in Graz or the Styria region of Austria.
- Religion: You are a member of a Christian church.
- Language: You have sufficient German skills to follow your programme.
- Return commitment: You plan to return to your home country after graduating. If you do not return, you must repay the full amount received.
- Academic progress: You must show steady progress throughout your studies; payments stop if you do not.
- References (doctoral and upper undergraduate tracks): You need a recommendation letter from your academic supervisor and from your department head.
- Job offer (teacher-training track): You must have a confirmed job offer in your home country before applying.
How to apply
Download the application form from the KHG Graz website and submit it with your supporting documents to the foundation. There are two deadlines each year: 30 April and 30 September.
