About this scholarship

UPF-WORLD international mobility grant

You get a one-off payment of 1,000 EUR towards a study exchange outside the EU. You get 2,000 EUR if you hold a general MECD state grant, have a recognised disability of 33% or more, or are a victim of gender-based violence or terrorism. The money comes in two parts: 70% after your host university confirms your enrolment, and 30% after you prove you finished the stay. The Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) in Barcelona funds the grant, since 2024-25 together with Banco Santander. For 2026-27 the total budget is 125,000 EUR.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled in an official bachelor's degree at the UPF, both when you apply and during your stay abroad.
  • Degree level: Bachelor students only. The grant does not fund master's or other levels.
  • Exchange place: You already have an exchange spot at a partner university outside the EU that has an agreement with the UPF. Erasmus and other separately-funded exchanges do not count.
  • Grades: Your participation mark in the standard mobility call is at least 6.5, or 6.0 for engineering degrees and students with fewer opportunities.
  • Length of stay: You commit to at least 3 months abroad. Medical students on clinical placements need at least 2 months.

How to apply

There is no separate application. Once you are assigned an exchange place through the UPF's standard international mobility call, you are automatically considered for this grant. Priority goes to holders of the general MECD state grant, then to the highest grade averages, until the budget runs out. Those who qualify but miss out go on a waiting list.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is cut narrowly: only UPF bachelor students who already have a non-EU exchange place and meet the grade cut-off are in the running. Within that small group there is no separate contest. So if you have the exchange spot and clear the mark, your prospects are good. MECD grant holders and students with fewer opportunities get priority when the budget is tight.
