About this scholarship
What you get
You receive a grant for research and travel on inherited retinal diseases, such as retinitis pigmentosa and macular degeneration (both cause gradual loss of eyesight). The board decides the amount case by case, so it is not fixed; a recent grant was 5,000 EUR. You can use it for research costs, travel, or attending scientific conferences in your field. The money comes from the research fund (Tutkimusrahasto) of Retina ry, the Finnish association for people with inherited retinal degeneration.
Who can apply
- What you do: You carry out research on inherited retinal diseases, their treatment or rehabilitation.
- Where the research happens: The research must take place in Finland. If you are a Finnish citizen, you can also be funded for research done abroad.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply. If you are not a Finnish citizen, you or your research leader must be employed by a Finnish research institution.
- Field: Your research focuses on inherited retinal degeneration, for example retinitis pigmentosa or macular degeneration.
How to apply
Send an informal written application to the board of the association. You can apply at any time, as there is no deadline. Explain clearly what you will use the money for. The board may ask for more documents and decides the amount.
