About this scholarship
Benefit
You will receive a one-off grant of 2,500 EUR to help get your medical research off the ground. You may use the money as you see fit to advance your research, and you do not need to specify in advance what you will spend it on. The grant will be paid out in the year following its award, in January, March or August. It is administered by the Finnish Medical Foundation (Laaketieteensaatio), which was founded in 1960 by the Finnish Medical Society Duodecim and awards grants totalling over 2 million euros annually.
Eligibility
- Level: You are a medical student or a licentiate (holder of the Finnish medical degree that licenses you to practise) starting out in research. You have not yet defended a doctoral thesis, and you must not do so before the application period ends.
- Field: You are studying or conducting research in the field of medicine (M.D.). Students and researchers in the field of dentistry may also apply. Other health-related degree programmes are not eligible.
- Track record: Previous publications are not required. The assessment will focus on your research project and your research environment, not on your previous achievements.
- Once only: You can receive the Eka Grant only once.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s funding service once a year between 1 and 31 May. You may only apply for one type of funding per round. The Foundation’s scholarship committee will assess your research project and make its decision on academic grounds.
