About this scholarship
Foundation for Pediatric Research grants
You will receive a monthly grant to carry out research into the health and illnesses of children and young people. The amount depends on your qualifications and your role:
- Dissertation grant (money to prepare your doctorate): 1,700–1,900 euros per month for students, 1,900–2,100 euros for holders of a licentiate degree, and up to 2,300–2,500 euros for other applicants.
- Clinician-researcher grant (part-time research alongside a clinical job): 2,700–3,000 euros per month for a graduate in medicine, 3,200–3,500 euros for a lecturer, 3,700–4,200 euros for a professor.
- Post-doc grant abroad: up to 50,000 EUR per year for one year, sometimes two. For researchers who recently finished their doctorate and leave Finland to train at a research institute abroad.
- Project grant (for research groups led by a clinical researcher with a doctorate): to 60,000 euros per year for 1 to 3 years to cover salaries and research costs. The cost of purchasing equipment is not covered.
The funding comes from the Foundation for Paediatric Research (Lastentautien tutkimussäätiö), a Finnish charitable organisation that funds research into childhood illnesses. In 2026, it awarded a total of 2.8 million euros.

- For the post-doc grant abroad: You have recently completed your PhD and received an invitation from a research institute abroad.
- One at a time: You may only submit one grant application per round. You cannot submit an application if you are already receiving an ongoing grant for the year in question.

How to apply
You apply online via the Foundation’s funding system at www.ltts.fi. The application window runs every year from 1 to 31 March. You may submit parts of your application, such as the research proposal, in English. The Grants Committee assesses the applications, whilst local hospital grants committees review the doctoral research grants. The Executive Board then makes the final decision, and the results are announced by the end of September.
