About this scholarship

What you get

You will receive a scholarship to continue your studies or to carry out specific research at a university in Finland or abroad. The amount and duration of the scholarship are not specified. The scholarship is awarded by the Vuorineuvos V.A. Kotilainen Foundation, named after V.A. Kotilainen, who headed the Finnish forestry company Enso-Gutzeit for 20 years. The Foundation supports work in the fields of commerce, industry, forestry and similar applied disciplines.

Who can apply

  • Family link to the company: One of your parents is or was employed by Enso-Gutzeit Oy, Veitsiluoto Oy, Enso Oyj or Stora Enso Oyj. This is the most important requirement.
  • Study level: You are doing advanced university studies or special research. Studies at a university of applied sciences (ammattikorkeakoulu) do not qualify.
  • Stage of study: You have, at the very least, completed your first year of study. First-year students are not usually awarded prizes.
  • Field of study: You are studying business, industry, forestry or another practice-oriented, application-based subject.
  • Grades: You have strong academic results.
  • Financial need: You are unable to fund your studies entirely yourself.
  • Nationality: Primarily for Finnish nationals. If one of your parents works or has worked for Stora Enso, you may also apply even if you are a foreign national.

How to apply

The foundation is administered by Stora Enso’s legal department in Helsinki. The available sources do not specify an application deadline.
