About this scholarship
Kuopio University Foundation research grants
You will receive a one-off research grant for a specific research project. The amount depends on which of the Foundation’s specifically named funds you apply to. Smaller funds award grants ranging from approximately 1,000 to 5,000 euros. Larger funds, such as the Antti Heikkonen Fund or the Anna-Liisa Rasanen Fund, awarded up to 20,000 EUR in the year 2025. The money is intended to support doctoral theses (your dissertation) and postdoctoral research. It comes from the Kuopio University Foundation (Finnish: Kuopion yliopistosaatio), a charitable organisation that supports the Kuopio campus of the University of Eastern Finland. You may apply to several funds at the same time, provided you meet the criteria of the respective funds.
Who can apply
- Where you work or study: You are a member of staff or a student at the University of Eastern Finland’s Kuopio campus. The Joensuu campus is excluded from this.
- Level: You are a PhD student working on your thesis, or you are a postdoctoral researcher.
- Field of study: Applications are open to all fields, although some funding is restricted to specific topics, such as cancer research, cardiovascular research or environmental and health research. You should apply to the funding programme that best suits your project.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
- What you submit: You have a research plan, a CV with a list of your publications, and a statement from your supervisor.
How to apply
Applications must be submitted via the Foundation’s online application system. Applications submitted in paper form or by email will not be accepted. The application period runs each year from 1 September to 25 September. Applicants will be notified in November or December, and the names of the scholarship recipients will be published in December.
