About this scholarship
LUT University exchange study grants
If you are picked for an exchange semester at one of LUT University's partner universities, you get a grant to cover living and travel costs while you are abroad. LUT's International Mobility Services pays it in one lump sum at the start of your exchange. The amount depends on where you go:
- Europe (Erasmus+): 490 EUR or 540 EUR per month, depending on the cost of living in your destination. Higher-cost countries such as Germany, France, Sweden or the UK pay 540 EUR; lower-cost ones such as Poland, Spain or Türkiye pay 490 EUR.
- Erasmus+ Global partners: a few partner universities covered by a separate Erasmus+ Global agreement pay 700 EUR per month. Right now these are the University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and Saint Mary's University (Canada).
- Travel support (Erasmus+ only): an extra one-off payment of 28 EUR to 1,735 EUR, depending on the distance from Lappeenranta to your host campus. You get more if at least half your round trip avoids flights and ferries (green travel).
- Non-European partner universities: a single payment of 1,500 EUR in total.
- Two Norwegian business schools (NOREK network): a single payment of 1,330 EUR to 1,755 EUR in total, depending on the school and whether it is the shorter autumn or longer spring semester.
- Extra support: if you face extra barriers such as a disability, a serious health condition, caring responsibilities or a refugee background, you get an extra 250 EUR per month on top of the Erasmus+ grant, plus a case-by-case allowance for real additional costs.
Who can apply
- Who you are: You are an enrolled LUT student, at bachelor's, master's or doctoral level.
- Where you go: Your exchange is at an official LUT partner university. Exchanges you arrange yourself (freemover) are not funded.
- Credits count: The courses you take abroad must count towards your LUT degree.
- Study load: You study full time, aiming for 30 ECTS credits per semester. If you end up with fewer than 20 ECTS, you pay part or all of the grant back.
- In person: You are physically present in the host country. Online-only study is not accepted.
- Not your home country: Erasmus+ support is not paid if you exchange in your own country of residence.
- Safe destination: No grant is given for travel to countries under a Finnish Foreign Ministry travel warning.
How to apply
First get formal acceptance from the host university and agree your course plan (the learning agreement). Then apply for the grant through LUT Mobility-Online. Submit your application at least one month before your exchange starts. Applications are not processed in July and August.
