Charles Grupper Award

You will win a one-off prize of 5,000 EUR for outstanding research in dermatology, the science of the skin and skin conditions. Three prizes are awarded each year, bringing the total prize money to up to 15,000 euros. The prize is sponsored by LEO Pharma France, a pharmaceutical company specialising in dermatology. There are two categories: two prizes for an outstanding research article that has been published or accepted for publication, and one prize for the development of a digital or technological tool for dermatology. Such a tool could assist with diagnosis, treatment decisions, monitoring or patient care. The prizes are awarded during the “Journées Dermatologiques de Paris”, a major dermatology congress in Paris.

Who can apply

• Field: You work in dermatology as a clinician or researcher.
• For the article prizes: You are under 45. You are the first author of an article in the field of basic or clinical dermatological research. The article was accepted or published either this calendar year or during the whole of the previous year.
• For the digital prize: You are a dermatologist and are developing or using a digital or technological tool for dermatology. There is no age restriction here.
• Where the work was done: You carried out your research in France or in a French-speaking country (i.e. a country whose medical faculties are members of a French-speaking conference of deans).
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality are welcome to apply. What matters is where you have worked, not your passport.
• Independence: You carried out this work on your own initiative, not on behalf of LEO Pharma.

How to apply

Please submit your application in French to LEO Pharma using the official form. It must be received by 30 September. A six-member scientific committee will review all entries and select the winners. You can only win one of the three prizes.

How realistic are your chances?

This award has very strict criteria. The dermatological research must have been carried out in France or a French-speaking country. For the two article prizes, you must also be under the age of 45 and be the first author of an outstanding, recent publication. This keeps the pool of applicants small, meaning that a well-suited candidate with a solid piece of work has a genuine chance of success. Only three prizes are awarded, and the committee may withhold them if the standard is too low – so your work is the decisive factor in the decision.
