René and André Fabre Award

You will receive a one-off cash prize of about 2,000 EUR for outstanding research achievements in the fields of pharmacy or the life sciences. The prize is awarded by the French National Academy of Pharmacy (Académie nationale de Pharmacie) in Paris. It is funded by the Association of Pharmacy Trainees in Parisian Hospitals (AIPHP) and through a donation from Ms Jacqueline Fabre. You will receive it as a one-off payment at the Academy’s annual awards ceremony, not in monthly instalments.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are a current or former pharmacy trainee in a French hospital. Every region in France where you have completed a placement counts.
• Age: When applying, you are subject to 35.
• Field of study: Your research focuses on the pharmaceutical or biological sciences, particularly medical biology, toxicology or hospital hygiene.
• Timing of the work: You have submitted or defended your final thesis or research project within the last three years.
• Language: You have written your work in French or English.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, including foreign and European applicants who have been accepted for an internship in the Paris region.
• Limits: Members of the Academy are not eligible to enter. Only one entry may be submitted for the Academy Prize each year, and it can only be won once.

How to apply

Applications should be submitted by email to the Academy’s secretariat. Please send a signed letter of application, your CV with a list of publications, and an electronic copy of your doctoral thesis or research paper. The deadline for applications is 4 September. A jury from the Academy will select the winner.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is highly selective. You must be working as a pharmacy trainee at a French hospital as part of the 35 programme and have carried out recent research in specific specialist areas. This keeps the pool of eligible candidates small, meaning that a well-suited candidate with compelling, published work stands a real chance of winning. As an annual prize awarded on the basis of scientific merit, it recognises a clear, well-substantiated research approach.
