About this award / prize
Silviane Chatelain Award
For original research achievements in medical biology – the branch of laboratory science that analyses blood, tissue and other samples for the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases – you will receive a one-off prize of 1,000 EUR. The prize is awarded annually by the ‘Académie nationale de Pharmacie’ (French National Academy of Pharmacy) in Paris. It is funded by a donation from Christian Chatelain in memory of the biologist Silviane Chatelain. The laureates receive the prize at the Academy’s annual awards ceremony, which usually takes place in December.
Who can apply
- Qualification: You are a pharmacist.
- Field: Your thesis is an original piece of research in the field of medical biology or a piece of research that contributes to the state of knowledge and practice in medical biology.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Preference will be given to French applicants.
- Timing: You have completed or defended your thesis within the last three years prior to the application deadline.
- Language: Your paper is written in French or English.
- Not a member: You are not a member of the Academy. Members are not eligible for the prize.
How to apply
Please email your application to the Academy by 4 September 2026. Please include a covering letter, a full CV and a digital copy of your final thesis or dissertation. You may only apply for one of the Academy’s prizes per year. A panel of experts, comprising mainly members of the Academy, will select the winner.
How realistic are your chances?
This is an annual prize awarded in a narrowly defined specialist field. You must be a pharmacist and have recently published your own research in the field of medical biology, meaning that very few people meet the criteria. If your research clearly falls within the field of medical biology and was completed within the last three years, you have a genuine chance – particularly as a French pharmacist. As there is only one winner and the decision is based on the quality of the work, what matters is a compelling, well-presented research paper.
