Fondation FondaMental - FACE Award

Benefit

You will receive 2,000 EUR, which will be paid out to you as soon as an international scientific journal accepts the article you write as part of the prize. You will also be granted access to the FACE databases. These bring together patient data from the French networks of centres of expertise for bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, treatment-resistant depression and autism without intellectual disability. If required, epidemiologists and statisticians will assist you with the analysis. The Fondation FondaMental awards the prize in collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim, and up to 5 researchers are supported each year.

Eligibility

• Career stage: You are a young researcher in the field of psychiatry: a junior doctor, medical assistant, senior registrar (Chef de Clinique), psychologist, Master’s II student, PhD student or postdoctoral researcher.
• Where you work: You work in a hospital department or a research laboratory. Either you yourself or your laboratory must be a member of the ‘Alliance FondaMental’ network. Membership is free, individual and open to anyone with an interest in psychiatric research.
• Your project: You lead a data-analysis project on one of the four Expert Centre disorders. It focuses on epidemiology or health economics, on other illnesses that occur alongside the main one, or on identifying meaningful subtypes.
• Supervision: A research supervisor from your own team will support your project.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via your ‘Alliance FondaMental’ account on the Foundation’s website. If you are not yet a member, you must register first. The deadline for applications is midnight on 12 May. The Research Committee assesses each project in terms of scientific quality, feasibility and supervision, and the Foundation’s Board makes the final decision.

How realistic are your chances?

The field is small: you must work within the Alliance FondaMental network, in the field of psychiatry and on the specific disorders covered by the centre of expertise. There are very few applicants, and only 5 are selected each year. If you clearly fit this profile and submit a well-designed project with solid supervision, your chances are good. A meaningful, actionable research question is more important here than a polished application.
