About this scholarship
SFH End of Thesis and Bridge Fellowship
You will be offered a paid fixed-term contract worth 1300 EUR for up to 6 months, so that you receive a salary whilst you complete your research. In France, this contract is known as a CDD (fixed-term employment contract). The fellowship covers two scenarios: the final months of your PhD in haematology (the study of blood and blood disorders) prior to your thesis defence, or a transitional period following the defence to bridge the gap until you take up a postdoctoral position that has already been confirmed. It is funded by the Société Française d’Hématologie (SFH), the French Society for Haematology.
Who can apply
- Field: You carry out research in the field of haematology.
- Stage: You are either in the final 6 months of your PhD before your viva, or you have just completed your viva and are waiting to take up a postdoctoral position for which you have already been accepted.
- Where: You carry out the work in France.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply.
How to apply
Download the application form from the SFH website and submit your complete application documents by email before the deadline. There are two application rounds each year: the spring round closes on 15 May and the autumn round on 14 November.
How realistic are your chances?
This funding scheme is narrowly defined. Only haematology researchers who are in the final stages of their PhD or are currently taking a break before embarking on a postdoctoral fellowship in France are eligible to apply; the target group is therefore small. If you meet these time frame and subject area criteria and can provide evidence of a date for your doctoral defence or a confirmed postdoctoral position, your prospects are good. Two calls for applications each year offer you a second chance should you miss the first one.
