FRC-Foundation for Chemical Research - Chemistry Scholarships

Benefit

You will receive up to 10,000 EUR spread over two years to help fund your Master’s degree in Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg. The exact amount depends on your circumstances and is paid once per academic year. You may receive this grant alongside a French CROUS social grant. The funds come from the Fondation Jean-Marie Lehn in Strasbourg, which is financed by donations from former students, researchers and companies. Depending on the amount of donations received, between 5 and 10 grants are awarded each year, meaning that even students who meet all the eligibility criteria may not receive one.

Eligibility

• Degree level: You are enrolled in the first or second year of a Master’s degree programme (M1 or M2).
• Institution and field: You are studying chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg.
• Financial need: You are in a difficult financial situation and can provide evidence of this, for example by showing your family’s tax assessment notice.
• Grades: You have a track record of excellent academic achievement.
• Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. International students must provide certified French translations of all documents.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online using the Foundation’s form (JotForm). You must submit your CV, your academic transcripts, a personal statement outlining your financial circumstances and your study plans, and your family’s tax assessment notice. The application deadline is 21 September. A committee will review each application and make a decision on a case-by-case basis. You may renew the scholarship for the second year of your Master’s programme, provided that the annual review of your academic performance is favourable.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding is highly selective: you must be a Master’s student at a specific chemistry department and demonstrate genuine financial need, so the pool of eligible applicants is small. However, as only 5 to 10 scholarships are awarded each year, not every qualified applicant will receive funding. If you clearly meet the criteria, provide thorough documentation of your financial need and apply before the September deadline, your chances are good.
