Project grants for young craft artists (Fondation Banque Populaire)

You get a yearly grant, renewable for up to 3 years, to build a career in a craft-art trade (artisanat d'art, a skilled artistic craft) in France. You can spend the money on setting up your own workshop, buying materials and tools, further training, or promoting your work abroad. You also get mentoring: experts from the field advise you and open up their network. The programme is run by the Fondation d'entreprise nationale Banque Populaire, which has supported young craft artists since 2013.

Who can apply

• Trade: You work in the arts and crafts sector (artisanat d'art), for example in the fields of engraving, ceramics, joinery, textile design, embroidery or restoration.
• Age: You are under 40 years old.
• Training: You have completed a thorough apprenticeship in your trade.
• Experience: You have worked in this field for at least 2 years.
• Residence: You live mainly in France (mainland or overseas departments and territories) throughout the funding period.
• Who you are: Only individuals may apply; companies or organisations are not eligible.
• Your project: You have a viable, innovative business project. An introductory training course or a master craftsman taking on an apprentice do not qualify.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they meet the residence requirements.

How to apply

Please submit your complete application online via the Foundation’s platform between 29 June and 20 September 2026. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A pre-selection panel will review the submissions, after which a jury of ten experts in arts and crafts will make the final decision. Candidates who make it onto the shortlist will be invited to an audition (scheduled for 12 October 2026). You may only apply once: if your application is rejected, no further applications will be accepted.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed at a narrowly defined target group: craftspeople aged under 40 living in France who have a sound training background and at least two years’ professional experience. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly fit this profile and can present a concrete, feasible project, your chances are good. The jury places greater emphasis on entrepreneurial drive and innovative spirit than on a polished presentation. Bear in mind that you only have one chance – so do not apply until your project is truly fully developed.
