Doctoral grant from the Allier department

You will receive about 1,290 EUR per month, approximately 36,000 euros, over a period of three years to work on your PhD thesis. The money will be paid to you or your employer once you, the department and your institution have signed a tripartite agreement. The funding is provided by the Conseil Départemental de l’Allier, the local authority for the Allier department in central France. It supports researchers whose work is relevant to this region.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a PhD student and are working on your dissertation.
• Field of study: All disciplines are welcome. The theses funded to date have ranged from archaeology and history to chemistry, industry and palaeontology.
• Link to the Allier: The topic of your dissertation relates to research or development in the Allier department, or your supervisor’s laboratory is based in the Allier department, or both.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.

How to apply

The authority publishes a call for applications every year. Please submit your application by 15 June. A committee of the Conseil Départemental will then review the applications and decide who will receive funding.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is very specific. Your research must be related to the Allier department or supervised by a laboratory based there. As only a few PhD students meet the criteria, the pool of applicants is small. If your thesis clearly demonstrates this local connection, your chances are good. Make sure to explicitly highlight the link to the Allier department in your application, as this is what matters most.
