About this grant / loan
What you get
You will receive emergency financial aid of around 700 EUR if you suddenly find yourself in serious financial difficulties whilst studying in France. This is a one-off payment, not a regular monthly grant. The amount will be transferred directly into your bank account if you are thrown off course by unforeseen events, such as a family break-up, the loss of your accommodation, a health problem or a sudden loss of income. There are two types: a one-off payment for a single crisis situation and an annual variant, which is paid out over several months and is intended for students who are not eligible for regular financial support. This funding is state aid administered by CROUS, the French public body for student social benefits, and is available to students at the Grenoble Institute of Technology.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at a recognised public higher education institution in France, such as the Institut de Technologie de Grenoble.
- Age: You are in 35 on 1 September of the academic year. This restriction does not apply if you have a recognised disability.
- Financial need: You can describe a sudden or serious financial problem, such as a family split, losing your home, a health issue, unexpected costs or living independently from your parents.
- Nationality: French and international students are eligible to apply. Non-European students must hold a valid residence permit.
- Field of study: Any subject.
How to apply
You can submit your application at any time of the year. There is no form to download. Contact the social services department at your local CROUS to arrange an appointment with a social worker, who will help you put together your application documents. A committee chaired by the CROUS director will normally review your application within two to four weeks and pay out the amount within a few days of a positive decision.
How realistic are your chances?
This is needs-based emergency assistance, not a competition. There is no set number of places and no ranking against other applicants. The key factor is whether you can demonstrate that you are facing a genuine, serious financial emergency. If you can clearly prove this, your chances are good.
