AFFDU-GPIDF Grant

You will receive 1,500 EUR as a one-off payment to support the final stage of your PhD or a postdoctoral research project. This is a one-off payment, not a monthly grant. The amount is intended to supplement the budget you have set aside for your research. It is provided by the Paris Île-de-France Group (GPIDF) of the AFFDU, the French association of female university graduates, which supports female researchers whose work promotes gender equality. You may combine this grant with other scholarships.

Who can apply

• Women only: The scholarship is awarded to a young female researcher.
• Study stage: You are about to complete your PhD or are already working as a postdoctoral researcher. Second-year PhD students may be considered in exceptional cases, but will not be given priority.
• Where you study: You are enrolled at a university in the Île-de-France region (greater Paris).
• Research topic: Any topic is welcome, provided your project relates to the association’s key areas of focus: gender equality between women and men or girls and boys, equal access to education, parity, and the fight against discrimination and stereotypes.
• Age: You are under 40.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Membership: You are a member of the AFFDU or its sister organisation in your country, which is affiliated to Graduate Women International.
• First-time funding: You have not yet received any AFFDU funding.
• Time abroad (a plus): Projects involving a move to or from France are preferred, but are not a prerequisite.

How to apply

Please email your application to the chair of the AFFDU-GPIDF group by midnight on 31 May. You will be notified of the result in mid-July.

How realistic are your chances?

This scholarship is aimed at a narrowly defined target group: women under the age of 40 who are enrolled at a university in the Île-de-France region, are in the final stages of their PhD or are undertaking postdoctoral research, and whose research topic relates to gender equality. This means the pool of applicants remains small. If you clearly meet these criteria, are a member of the AFFDU and submit a sound research proposal – ideally involving a period of study abroad – your chances are good, as the sole grant will be awarded to a suitable candidate.
