Grand Est health and social care scholarship

You get between 1,454 EUR and 6,335 EUR per school year to train for a health or social care profession in France's Grand Est region. The exact amount depends on your income and on "charge points": extra weighting for things like your family situation, distance from home or a disability. The grant covers one school year, so you must reapply each year. It comes from the Grand Est Regional Council and helps students whose own or family income is too low to cover the cost of training.

Who can apply

• Training: You are enrolled in a first training course for a health or social care profession that the Grand Est region approves and funds. This covers state diplomas such as nurse, care assistant, midwife, physiotherapist, paramedic, occupational therapist, radiographer, and social work roles like specialised educator, social worker or nursery educator.
• Nationality: You are French, an EU national, or a foreigner legally resident in France at the start of the school year.
• Age and residence: No age limit, and it does not matter where you live.
• Financial need: Your own or your family's income is too low to cover the cost of the training.
• Attendance: You have completed at least 140 hours of training.
• Not eligible: Public or private-sector employees, people on an apprenticeship or professionalisation contract, and anyone receiving unemployment benefits, a retirement pension or parental-leave allowance. You also cannot apply if the region does not cover your training fees, or if you already hold a CROUS scholarship.

How to apply

You apply online through the regional portal, using an access code from your training institute. For the September 2026 intake, applications close on 30 September 2026. For the January 2026 intake, the deadline is 30 April 2026. Meeting the criteria does not guarantee the grant: each application is assessed against regional priorities.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is aimed only at students in specific region-approved health and social care courses who can show financial need, so the eligible group is much smaller than for open scholarships. If you are enrolled in one of the listed programmes and your income is genuinely low, your prospects are good. Awards are not automatic and depend on regional priorities, so apply within the deadline for your intake.
