About this scholarship

What the Fondation de France funds

You will receive a research grant of 20,000 to 120,000 EUR over a period of up to 3 years to investigate the care of seriously ill or dying people. The grant is intended to support research into palliative care, pain management, end-of-life care, patients’ quality of life and the workload of care staff. The Fondation de France, a French charitable foundation, is running this programme to gather robust data that will improve day-to-day care. There are two options: a grant for a care or research team, or a grant to support the completion of a doctoral thesis (up to 3 years for a PhD, up to 2 for a postdoctoral fellowship). Each team may apply for only one of these two options. The foundation covers part of the costs, so you will need co-funding from another source.

Who can apply

  • Who you are: A team of clinical, medical or paramedical professionals, or a researcher from fields such as sociology, psychology, philosophy, anthropology, public health, epidemiology or health economics.
  • Your job: The lead applicant must hold a permanent post at a French public or non-profit research organisation.
  • Topic: Your project should focus on serious, life-threatening illnesses, end-of-life care, palliative care, pain or the wellbeing of carers. Projects in the field of basic laboratory research or therapeutic training are not eligible for funding.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply, but the place of work must be in France.
  • One per team: Only one application will be accepted per team or laboratory.
  • Preference: Priority will be given to projects carried out jointly by researchers and clinical teams, as well as to teams that have not yet received funding under this call for proposals.
