Prix Gisele Guilbaud (SFETD)

You receive a one-off award of 15,000 EUR, paid in full once your research project is accepted. Use it to start, continue or finish a research project on pain, whether basic laboratory work or clinical studies. The prize is awarded in your name by the Societe Francaise d'Etude et du Traitement de la Douleur (SFETD), the French society for the study and treatment of pain. Only one prize is given each year, and the jury may decide not to award it if no project is strong enough.

Who can apply

• Who you are: You are a young health professional or scientist, doing a doctoral thesis or in a post-doctoral position (research work after your PhD).
• Age: You are under 40.
• Career stage: You do not yet hold a permanent post.
• Where the research happens: Your project runs in France.
• Field: Your research is on pain, either basic or clinical.
• Supervisor: A scientific supervisor from your lab or medical department oversees your work.
• Publications: You can apply even with no publications yet.
• Nationality: Any nationality can apply. What counts is that the research takes place in France.

How to apply

Ask the SFETD office for the application form by email. Send it back as a single PDF with your CV, your supervisor's CV, a summary of your research project and supporting documents. In 2025 the deadline was Monday 28 April at midday. About four weeks after the deadline you learn by email whether your file is accepted, and the winner is announced at the SFETD annual congress in November.

How realistic are your chances?

This is a single, specialised prize for early-career pain researchers in France, so the eligible group is narrow but the competition for the one award is real. The jury weighs your own record alongside the quality of your project, supervisor and lab. A well-designed project backed by a strong lab stands out. If you clearly meet the age, career-stage and field criteria and submit a solid, feasible project, your prospects are good.
