What FSDIE social aid gives you

This is a needs-based emergency grant from Université de Bordeaux for students who find themselves in financial or social hardship whilst studying. It is not a monthly scholarship. A social welfare committee (a body that assesses each case individually) decides on the amount of support to be provided. There are three types of assistance:

• General social aid: A one-off payment if you find yourself in financial difficulties during the year. The amount is determined on a case-by-case basis; there is no published fixed amount.
• Digital aid: Assistance with buying a computer. You will receive a refurbished device or a refund of up to 300 EUR towards the purchase or repair of such a device. The receipt must be in your name and must not be more than three months old. You may only claim this benefit once.
• Tuition fee waiver: Depending on your circumstances, your enrolment fees may be waived in full or in part.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled at the Université de Bordeaux on a state-recognised degree programme: DEUST, BUT, Licence, Licence professionnelle, Master’s, a non-state-funded PhD programme or a healthcare training programme.
• Financial need: You are experiencing financial or social difficulties. That is exactly what this support is for.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities. First-year international students are not entitled to a full exemption from fees, but may apply for a partial reduction in the banded fees.
• Type of study: Preference will be given to students in the first stage of their studies (formation initiale).
• Not eligible: PhD students who already have funding, as well as students participating under an international exchange agreement or the ERASMUS+ programme.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the university’s Sphinx platform. For general social assistance, please first make an appointment with the CROUS social services department before submitting your application. Deadlines for 2026-2027: general social assistance by 11 June 2027, digital support by 14 May 2027 and fee exemption by 20. October 2026 (Bachelor’s and Master’s) or on 15 January 2027 (PhD). A social welfare committee will then review your case and inform you of its decision.

How realistic are your chances?

This is support for a specific emergency situation, not a competition to identify the highest-achieving students. If you are enrolled at the University of Bordeaux and can provide evidence of genuine financial or social hardship, your case will be taken seriously. As a student on your first degree programme, you will be given priority. Apply for support well in advance and provide clear evidence, as each application is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
