About this scholarship

Baradat Bursaries at the Conservatoire de Paris

You will receive a one-off grant intended to help you purchase a high-quality musical instrument. A committee determines the amount of the grant for each student, so there is no fixed sum. As a guide: private grants at the conservatoire generally range from a few hundred euros to around 2,000 EUR, although grants for outstanding students may be higher. The funding comes from the Fondation François-Louis Baradat, which has been supporting students at the Conservatoire for decades through the Fondation de France.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP).
  • Instrument: Every instrument taught at the conservatoire counts – not just one.
  • Financial need: You need financial support to buy your instrument.
  • Musical level: You’re performing at a high level. You must meet both the eligibility and excellence criteria.
  • Your goal: You’re aiming for a career as a solo artist and need a high-quality instrument to achieve this.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Exchange students (e.g. under the Erasmus+ programme) are excluded from this and should contact their home university instead.

How to apply

Applications are made online via the Conservatoire’s student portal (ENT) under the ‘Aides privées’ section. The call for applications usually begins in January and is announced by email to your Conservatoire address. An internal committee makes the decision based on your financial need and your musical ability; for some scholarships, an audition is required.

How realistic are your chances?

The scholarship is very restrictive: you must already be studying at this particular school, demonstrate a genuine financial need and perform music to a high standard – which is why only a small number of students are eligible. Only a handful of these instrumental scholarships are awarded each year, so competition among suitable applicants remains fierce. If you clearly meet both the financial criteria and the required standard of playing, and submit a compelling application, your chances are good.
