About this award / prize
Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation Photography Scholarship
You will receive a one-off grant of 10,000 EUR to carry out your own documentary photography project in France or abroad on a social, economic, political or cultural theme. You will have up to 5 years to complete the project. The Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation, which awards prizes in various media fields, awards just one photography grant each year.
Who can apply
- What you do: Photography is your main job, not a hobby.
- Track record: You have already completed at least two documentary photography projects. Each of these has been published in the press (print or online), in a book or in an exhibition catalogue.
- Your project: You are submitting a documentary photography project with a clear theme, a clear approach and a work plan. The funding will help you to carry out the project.
- Age: On 31 December 2026, you will be 35 years old or younger.
- Language: You can present your project in writing and – if you are selected – in person in French.
- Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. You do not need to be a French citizen.
How to apply
Please submit your complete application online via the Foundation’s website by 14 June (23:59). A panel will first review all applications. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to present their project in person in French between September and October. The winner will be notified by telephone or email.
How realistic are your chances?
Only one photographer wins this prize each year, so the competition is fierce. However, the entry requirements severely limit the field of entrants: you must be a practising professional photographer, have two previously published documentary projects to your name, and present a compelling, original idea in French. Those who clearly meet all these criteria and submit a well-prepared project will compete within a small, select group rather than in an open field of entrants.
