Nicolas Scholarship (Bourse Nicolas)

You will receive up to 1,500 EUR to fund a training course or an exchange programme between hospitals in the field of nursing care for cancer and blood disorders. The amount covers the cost of one course and is paid directly to the training provider, so you will never handle the money yourself. It comes from the Association Laurette Fugain, a French charity that supports patients, their families and nursing staff in the field of blood cancers. Depending on the number of applications, the organisation awards one grant in some years and several in others.

Who can apply

• Your job: You are a state-registered nurse (infirmier(e) diplômé(e) d’État).
• Where you work: You work on a haematology ward (blood disorders). This also includes oncology and radiotherapy wards.
• Residence: You live in France.
• What you fund: You would like to take part in a paid training course or an exchange programme with another ward to share best practice.
• Your case: You take part in the care projects and working groups on your ward. You can explain why you chose the course, include a cost estimate and describe how you will subsequently apply the skills you have learnt.

How to apply

Please send your complete application documents by post and by email to the Foundation by 14 February. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A jury comprising members of the Executive Board and representatives from nursing associations will select the winners. These will be announced in March on Nurses’ Day as part of the Congress of the French Society for Haematology (SFH).

How realistic are your chances?

This award is presented only to a very select group. You must be a state-registered nurse working in the field of haematological or oncological care in France, which means that very few people apply for it. The quality of your application documents is crucial to the outcome: a clear choice of courses, a well-founded cost estimate and a concrete plan for how you intend to implement the training on your ward. A well-reasoned, complete application from someone who meets these requirements stands a good chance of success.
