Grant for a mandatory internship abroad

You will receive a one-off grant of up to 1,068 EUR for a compulsory internship abroad that forms part of your degree programme. The exact amount depends on the duration of the internship, which must last at least 6 weeks. It can be undertaken in any country in the world. The funding comes from the Orne Departmental Council (Conseil départemental de l’Orne) in France, which supports students from the Orne department.

Who can apply

• Where your family lives: Your family lives in the French department of Orne.
• The internship is required: Your degree programme requires you to spend time studying abroad, and you can demonstrate that it is not possible to do so in France. If France is a viable option, you are not eligible for the scholarship.
• Type of internship: It must be an integral part of your degree course, not an optional additional work placement.
• Unpaid: The work placement is unpaid, as confirmed in writing by your work placement supervisor.
• Family income: Your per capita income is below the threshold set by the city council. For 2023/2024, this amounted to 1,058 euros per person per month, based on the income of 2022.
• Field of study: Any topic is permitted.
• No Erasmus: You are not eligible for this grant if your work placement is part of the Erasmus programme.

You cannot combine this grant with other grants from the Council for Higher Education or for study abroad in the same academic year. However, you can combine it with the Council’s interest-free loan.

How to apply

Please send your application to the Orne Departmental Council. Payment will be made as soon as you provide proof that the work placement has been completed – either by means of an examination result or a certificate from the company.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is subject to very strict criteria. Your family must live in the Orne department, your degree programme must require an unpaid work placement abroad for which there is no alternative in France, and your household income must be below the income threshold. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small and competition is limited. If you clearly meet these conditions and can provide proof of this, your chances are good.
