About this grant / loan
Care Experienced Students' Grant
You get about EUR 1,150 per year (£1,000) for each year of your studies. The University of Bradford pays this to students who were in care as a child or young person. If you study part time, the amount is scaled to your course intensity, so 50% intensity means about EUR 575 per year (£500). You apply only once. The grant then renews automatically after you confirm your details each year. You also get a dedicated Student Life Adviser for money questions and priority access to the university's Student Support Fund, which can pay out up to about EUR 2,900 per year (£2,500) in extra help.
Who can apply
- Care background: You were previously in the care of a UK local authority as a child, for any length of time and at any age.
- University: You are enrolled and attending your course at the University of Bradford in the 2026/27 academic year.
- Level of study: Any level, including Foundation year, Bachelor, Master, doctorate and Degree Apprenticeships.
- Field of study: Any subject.
- Student status: You count as a Home student, meaning you pay UK-based fees rather than international fees.
- Household income: Your household income is below about EUR 34,500 per year (£30,000).
How to apply
You fill in the online form once. Attach proof that you were in care, which is a letter from your Social Worker or Social Services addressed to the University of Bradford. Add proof of your household income if needed. There is no interview; the university just checks your documents. In later years you do not reapply. You only re-confirm your income and bank details in May.
How realistic are your chances?
This grant is aimed at a small group: care experienced Home students at one specific university with a household income under £30,000. There is no competitive selection. If you meet those conditions and supply the local authority letter, you will get the grant. The main risk is an incomplete application, so make sure every document is included.
