Oxford Bursaries for UK/EU students

You will receive a yearly grant of up to about 5,100 EUR (£4,390) from the University of Oxford, which you will never have to repay. This will cover your tuition fees and living costs in Oxford. The exact amount depends on your household income: approximately 5,100 EUR (£4,390) if your household earns £25,000 or less per year, and decreases gradually to around 1,280 EUR (£1,100) at the £50,000 upper end. The money is paid out annually for the duration of your studies and is reviewed each year based on your income. If you live more than 80 miles from Oxford within the UK, you will also receive a travel allowance of around 255 EUR (£220) or around 640 EUR (£550) per year, depending on the distance.

Who can apply

• University: You’re studying at the University of Oxford.
• Degree: This is your first bachelor’s degree. Students on the ‘Graduate Entry Medicine’ programme, certain PGCE students without a teacher training grant, and full-time students studying for a Certificate or Diploma in Theological Studies are also eligible.
• Field of study: Any subject.
• Nationality: You are a British student, an Irish national residing in the United Kingdom or Ireland, or a national of the EU, the EEA or Switzerland with ‘settled’or ‘pre-settled’ status who meets the UK’s residence requirements.
• Fee status: You pay tuition fees at the UK ‘domestic’ rate rather than the international rate.
• Income: Your annual household income is below £50,000 and has been assessed by your regional funding body, such as Student Finance England.
• Not already a graduate: You have not yet obtained a bachelor’s degree.
• No Crankstart: Crankstart is a standalone scholarship offered by the University of Oxford to students resident in the United Kingdom whose household income does not exceed £32,500. If you meet the eligibility criteria, you will be offered Crankstart instead, and you cannot receive both scholarships at the same time.

How to apply

There is no separate application form. If you are applying for student finance from the UK government, please ensure that both you and the people you live with complete the household income test. Your income test must be completed by 30 May. Eligible students will then be automatically notified of their funding by the start of the Michaelmas term (autumn term).

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a competitive scholarship. There are no interviews and no selection panel. If you are studying at Oxford, pay domestic tuition fees and your assessed household income is below £50,000,, you will receive the grant automatically. The only real hurdle is ensuring that your means test is completed in good time. You should therefore submit your application for student finance and complete the means test well before the deadline on 30 May.
