About this scholarship

Subsidy for language courses

You will receive a grant to cover the costs of a language course that will benefit your forestry research or studies. For example, you might learn a language that you need to read sources or collaborate with researchers abroad. The amount is not fixed: You must state your study costs in the application, and the Society will decide on the amount of the grant. The grant is tax-free, and you must provide your home address in the application for the necessary tax declaration. The funding is provided by the Finnish Society of Forest Science (Suomen Metsatieteellinen Seura).

Who can apply

  • Degree level: You are a Master’s or PhD student. Bachelor’s students and students at universities of applied sciences are not eligible to apply.
  • Where you study: You are enrolled at, or affiliated with, a Finnish university or research institution.
  • Field: Your work is in forest science or a related subject, such as forestry, wood science, forest ecology or forest economics.
  • Relevance: The language you wish to learn must be clearly relevant to your research or studies. Please explain this connection in a brief statement of no more than 3,000 characters.
  • Nationality: Applicants of all nationalities are welcome to apply. Ukrainian forestry scientists who are employed by a Finnish research institution or are studying for a PhD at a Finnish university are also encouraged to apply.
