About this scholarship
Hudson Powell Sports Scholarship
You get a cash award of about 1,450 to 5,800 EUR per year (£1,250 to £5,000), paid in instalments across the academic year. You can spend it however you like. The exact figure changes year to year and depends on the funding available. This is a named sports scholarship at the University of Bath, funded by alumni, partners and donors. It goes to student-athletes who compete at an elite level while studying, in any sport or subject.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are enrolled at the University of Bath for at least 30 credits.
- Your sport: You compete in an Olympic, Paralympic or Commonwealth Games sport, or a professional sport run by a National Governing Body approved by Sport England.
- Level: You meet the performance bar in at least one way. You hit the sport-specific criteria, you have been nominated for a major international or professional youth or junior competition in the last two years, or you are on the performance pathway of a National Governing Body or a professional team.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Nationality: All nationalities can apply, as long as you study at Bath.
- Clean record: You are not under an anti-doping ban and have no misconduct finding under the university's student disciplinary rules.
Meeting the criteria does not guarantee a place. The panel also weighs your commitment and drive, and it may change the criteria.
How to apply
You apply through the online Breakthrough Scholarship form and tick the box to be considered for a named scholarship. You can only apply for named scholarships in the first phase. For 2026-27 this runs from 28 June to 25 September 2026. A panel of Team Bath performance staff selects the scholars and notifies successful applicants by email.
How realistic are your chances?
Only a handful of these named scholarships are awarded each year, and you must already compete at an elite level. The field is small but strong. If you are on a National Governing Body pathway or have competed for your country at junior level and clearly meet the performance bar, your prospects are real. Apply in the first phase, because named awards close in September and cannot be claimed later in the year.
