About this scholarship

Imperial Athletes Sport Scholarship

You get a cash award of roughly 230 EUR to 3,450 EUR (£200 to £3,000) per year to cover kit, equipment, coaching and competition costs. You also get practical support to train and compete while you study at Imperial College London: access to a performance gym at Ethos and Putney Boathouse, strength and conditioning sessions, physiotherapy, sports rehab and massage. There are three tiers. Gold pays about 1,150 to 3,450 EUR (£1,000 to £3,000), Silver about 290 to 1,150 EUR (£250 to £1,000) and Bronze about 230 to 460 EUR (£200 to £400). Gold and Silver athletes also get virtual sessions with a sport psychologist and a nutritionist. The support is worked out for each athlete individually. In return you represent Imperial at BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) fixtures and help promote your sport on social media and at events.

Who can apply

  • Where you study: You are enrolled at Imperial College London, in any department.
  • Degree level: Bachelor's, taught Master's, research Master's or doctorate all qualify.
  • Study mode: Full-time and part-time students can apply.
  • Already enrolled: You are a continuing student, not a first-year newcomer.
  • Sport level: You compete at regional, national or international level in your sport.
  • Nationality: Open to both UK (Home) and overseas students.
  • Selection note: Competing at a high level does not guarantee a place. The performance staff weigh several factors when choosing.

How to apply

You apply through an online form. Applications for the 2026/2027 year are open. There are two windows each year: one in summer before Term 1 and one in the winter break. If you are shortlisted, you are invited to an online interview as the second stage.

How realistic are your chances?

This award is limited to Imperial students who already compete at a serious level, so the eligible group is small. But competing well is not enough on its own: the staff pick case by case and weigh several factors. If you are a strong, committed athlete at Imperial and apply early in one of the two windows, your prospects are reasonable.
