Swedish-Spanish Foundation scholarship

You will receive a grant to cover one academic year of the costs of your studies abroad. Swedish students will study in Spain and Spanish students in Sweden. The foundation does not specify a fixed amount. This is a one-off grant to cover your living costs, which you must use within 12 months of approval. The money comes from the Svensk-Spanska Stiftelsen, a Stockholm-based foundation that promotes student exchanges between the two countries.

Who can apply

• Nationality: You are a Swedish or Spanish national.
• Where you study: Swedish schoolchildren are travelling to Spain; Spanish schoolchildren are travelling to Sweden.
• Level: You are enrolled at a university.
• Age: You are no older than 29.
• Language: You have a basic knowledge of Spanish (if you are Swedish) or a basic knowledge of Swedish (if you are Spanish).
• What counts: Your stay must form part of a regular degree programme; it must not be a language course taken as a main subject, nor an internship. The scholarship is not awarded for academic work that has already been completed.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s website. Please submit one application per academic year and enclose a certificate of enrolment from your chosen higher education institution. The application deadline for the 2026/2027 academic year begins on 1 June 2026. Incomplete applications will not be considered, and all applicants will be notified of the outcome by post.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined. You must be a Swedish or Spanish national, under the age of 30, and be travelling between these two countries as part of a regular degree programme – not for a language course or an internship. This means that the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet the criteria and can provide proof of a confirmed place at university, your chances are good. Apply as soon as the application window opens, rather than waiting.
