About this scholarship
What you get from the Dankook Summer Program
You will be taking part in a two-part Korean summer programme organised by Dankook University in South Korea. The first part is the Global Village: a three-week teaching placement. You will lead small conversation classes in Spanish for students at Dankook University, totalling approximately 60 hours. There are no fees for this part of the programme. You’ll receive free accommodation in the on-campus halls of residence, a certificate and, upon completion, a refund of your flight costs of up to approximately 900 EUR (US$1,000). This is immediately followed by the four-week Academic Program. You will take one or two credit-bearing courses taught by international and Dankook lecturers – ranging from business and IT to the Korean language, history and K-pop dance – as well as optional cultural excursions. As a student from a partner university, you’ll receive a discount of US$1,000 on the Academic Program fee.
Who can apply
- Level: You are currently a Bachelor’s or Master’s student.
- Where you study: You are studying at the University of Burgos or another of Dankook University’s partner universities and are applying via your home university.
- Language: You speak Spanish fluently, as you will be teaching the language.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Nationality: All nationalities welcome.
- Both parts required: You must take part in the academic programme following the Global Village. If you do not take part, you will lose all the benefits of the Global Village, including the reimbursement of your flight costs.
How to apply
Applications are made online via the Dankook Summer School website. You will need to create an account, enter your details and submit a short video introducing yourself and explaining your motivation. The application deadline is 17 April. Your application documents will be reviewed by the staff; this may be followed by an online interview. Your teaching partner and campus will then be allocated at random.
How realistic are your chances?
The selection criteria are strict. You must speak Spanish fluently, be studying at one of Dankook University’s partner universities, and be prepared to commit to a total of seven weeks in Korea, spread across both parts of the programme. This means that the pool of suitable Spanish speakers is quite small. If you clearly meet these requirements and submit a compelling introductory video, your chances are good – so make sure you apply in good time before the April deadline.
