About this award / prize
The R.G.G. Barry Prize in Paediatrics
For achieving the highest marks in paediatrics in your final medical examinations at University College Cork (UCC), you will receive a one-off cash prize of about 1,000 EUR. The exact amount varies slightly from year to year, as the money comes from the investment income of an endowment fund. Friends and former students of Dr R.G.G. Barry, the first Professor of Paediatrics at UCC, established this fund. The prize is awarded once a year.
Who can apply
- Where you study: You are currently studying medicine at University College Cork in Ireland.
- Field: You are studying medicine and are sitting the part of your final exams relating to paediatrics.
- Grades: You achieve the highest marks in the final examination in paediatrics, and the examination board agrees that the standard is high enough.
- Time at UCC: You have studied at UCC for the three years running up to this exam.
- Study timing: No more than three years may have elapsed between your previous medical examination and these final examinations. Any time spent studying for a recognised non-medical degree, such as a BSc (Hons), is not taken into account when calculating this period.

How to apply
