University College Dublin - Entrance Scholar awards

UCD Entrance Scholar award

This is an academic honour from University College Dublin (UCD) for top first-year undergraduates. You get formal recognition of outstanding results when you start a full-time bachelor's degree. This includes an invitation to the Entrance Scholar Awards ceremony in UCD's O'Reilly Hall each spring, a scroll (a certificate), and a permanent note on your final university transcript. Your old school is honoured too, with a plaque and an invitation to the ceremony. The award has no cash value.

Who can apply

• Degree level: You are starting a full-time bachelor's programme at UCD.
• Field of study: Any subject is fine.
• Results (Ireland): You sat the Leaving Certificate (the Irish school-leaving exam), scored at least 500 points, and have the highest points of all students from your school starting at UCD.
• Results (other EU): You hold a standard EU school-leaving qualification, scored at least the equivalent of 500 Leaving Certificate points, and have the top score for that qualification.
• Nationality: You are from Ireland or another EU country.
• Ties: If several students from the same school reach the same top score, all of them get the award.

How to apply

There is nothing to apply for and no interview. UCD selects the awardees automatically from your exam results. The ceremony is held every spring.
