About this scholarship
Benefit
You get up to 3,000 EUR per year to study at the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) in Ireland while competing at a high level in your sport. The amount comes in three tiers, paid as cash or as a cut to your fees: Gold gives 3,000 EUR per year, Silver 1,500 EUR and Bronze 500 EUR. On top of the money you get free or cheaper gym access, strength and conditioning coaching, physiotherapy, mentoring (one-to-one guidance from an experienced advisor), academic and career support, free sports gear and help competing nationally and internationally. If you apply as a new student in round 1 or round 2, you may also get a reduced entry requirement of up to 50 CAO points, the points system Irish universities use to admit students. Places for this are limited. The scholarship is awarded by ATU to athletes who balance top-level sport with their studies.
Eligibility
- Who it is for: You are either a new student about to start at ATU or already enrolled and moving up a year.
- Enrolment: You study full time at any ATU campus, including ATU St. Angela's.
- Your sport: You play a sport recognised by Sport Ireland. Other sports can be accepted in exceptional cases.
- Your level: You compete at provincial, national or international level. Examples: a regular starter on a GAA inter-county team, a League of Ireland side or an Irish international underage basketball panel.
- Track record: You reached a high level in your sport in the last 2 years (new students) or the last year (existing students). Existing students must already have competed for the university.
- Nationality: Any nationality can apply, as long as you study at ATU.
How to apply
You apply through an online form. There are three rounds each year: round 1 closes on 3 April, round 2 on 5 June and round 3 on 4 October. Applications open every year on 10 January. A committee scores each application and may invite you to an interview before deciding your tier. You must renew the scholarship each year, and it continues only if your studies and sport stay on track.
