UCD Sports Scholarship

You will receive a support package for talented athletes studying at University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland. There is no fixed amount. The amount is determined individually for each sport and each club, and some clubs also offer a scholarship (a cash grant). The package may include access to the UCD team’s gym, a free swimming pool membership, use of sports medicine and performance testing facilities, discounted physiotherapy, travel allowances for national and international competitions, as well as flexible study arrangements to accommodate your training and competitions. It is valid for one year at a time and may be renewed provided you continue to make progress in both your studies and your sport.

Who can apply

• University: You have applied for a place on a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree programme at UCD, or have already been offered such a place. The scholarship will only take effect once your place at UCD has been confirmed.
• Field of study: Open to all subjects.
• Nationality: All nationalities can apply.
• Sporting level: You compete at a high level in your sport.
• Your club: You are a member of a UCD sports club that competes at a high level and is able to fund a scholarship. Not every sport is eligible; only clubs with the appropriate structure and funding are considered.
• Commitment: You are ready to represent your UCD sports club and get involved in its activities, whilst achieving satisfactory results both in your studies and in sport.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via the ‘UCD Scholarship Applications’ page. Please submit one application per sport, together with two written references (one from an academic source and one from a sporting source) and a photograph. For the start of term in September 2027, the application period begins on 1 February 2027 and ends on 31 March 2027 at 23:59. Late applications will not be considered. Your application will be forwarded to the relevant club; you may be invited to an interview or a trial session, and the club will usually make the final decision.
