About this award / prize

7Pixel Prize of merit for Computer Science (University of Insubria)

For outstanding academic achievement in your computer science degree at the University of Insubria in Como and Varese, you will receive a one-off prize of 1,500 EUR. The prize is sponsored by 7Pixel srl, an Italian price comparison and online shopping company, in memory of Professor Gaetano Aurelio Lanzarone. To win, create a small software project on a topic of interest to 7Pixel. A member of the academic staff will supervise you, and you must complete the project independently within 10 days.

Who can apply

  • University: You are studying at the University of Insubria.
  • Degree: You are enrolled on the Master’s degree programme (Laurea Magistrale) in Computer Science. In some cohorts, Bachelor’s students (Triennale) were also represented.
  • Grades: You passed at least 6 exams in your first year of your Master’s degree, with an average mark of at least 27 out of 30.
  • Project: You build a small project on a topic useful to 7Pixel, with a faculty supervisor, and finish it alone within 10 days.
  • Nationality: Any nationality can apply.

How to apply

Please submit your application by 17 March, either in person or by registered post, to the secretariat of the Department of Theoretical and Applied Sciences (DiSTA) in Varese. A panel comprising faculty members and representatives from 7Pixel will select the winners.

How realistic are your chances?

The selection criteria for this award are very strict. You must be studying computer science at a specific university, have a very good grade point average and submit a workable project that is of interest to a company. This means that the pool of eligible students is small. If you already have the required grades and can complete the project by the deadline, your chances are good.
