About this scholarship

Chemistry incentive at the University of Bologna

You receive a one-off payment of up to about 597 EUR for one academic year, paid in a single instalment. It is a prize ("incentivo") for students in STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) at the University of Bologna, funded by the Italian state under law L. 170/2003. Chemistry counts. Eligible courses are the Bachelor "Scienze e tecnologie chimiche" (L-27) and the Masters "Scienze Chimiche" (LM-54) and "Scienze e Tecnologie della Chimica Industriale" (LM-71). The exact amount is set individually. It depends on your income (your ISEE value, Italy's official measure of household economic means) and your gender, with a guaranteed minimum of 200 EUR. Women with an ISEE of 33,000 EUR or below can receive the highest share.

Who can apply

  • University and subject: You study a STEAM course at the University of Bologna. For chemistry, this means the Bachelor or one of the Master programmes listed above.
  • Enrolment: You first enrolled in the academic year 2025/2026 and are enrolled again for the academic year 2026/2027.
  • Credits: By 30 September 2026, you will have earned two-thirds of the credit points required for the first year of study, which corresponds to approximately 40 of the 60 CFU (the Italian credit unit).
  • No switching: You have neither changed your degree programme nor withdrawn from your studies before the deadline.
  • Nationality: Open to all nationalities, including international students.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via ‘Studenti Online’ (studenti.unibo.it). Log in using SPID or, if you are an international student without SPID, using your university login details. Submit your 2026 ISEE certificate for the purpose of claiming university benefits by 27 October 2026 at 12:00. The ranking is based on your credit points, your weighted grade point average and your ISEE score.

How realistic are your chances?

The funding is based on a fixed amount per degree programme, for example 18,200 EUR for the Bachelor’s degree programme in Chemistry and around 7,000 EUR for each Master’s degree programme in Chemistry. The money is divided amongst several students, rather than a single recipient receiving the entire amount. As the eligibility criteria are narrowly defined (specific university, subject area and year of enrolment) and each subject area has its own budget, the pool of applicants is limited. If you achieve the required number of credit points with good grades and a low ISEE, your chances are good.
