STEAM incentive at the University of Bologna

To help you succeed in your first year of the Chemistry degree programme at the University of Bologna, you will receive a one-off payment of up to 597 EUR. The exact amount will be determined on a case-by-case basis. It depends on your family’s income (as measured by the Italian ISEE indicator) and other factors, with a minimum amount of 200 EUR being paid out in a single instalment. The funds come from the university, which sets aside a specific amount for each degree programme. For the Chemistry degree programme (Scienze e tecnologie chimiche, L-27), the total amount is 18,214.67 EUR, which is divided amongst eligible students. Students on lower incomes receive a larger share of the maximum amount.

Who can apply

• Degree: You are studying for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEAM subject. This includes degree programmes in chemistry and materials chemistry, such as ‘Chimica e chimica dei materiali’ (Bologna) or ‘Chimica industriale e tecnologie per i materiali’ (Faenza).
• Enrolment: You first enrolled in the academic year 2025/2026 and have re-enrolled in the academic year 2026/2027. You have neither switched to a different degree programme nor withdrawn from your studies.
• Credits: By 30 September 2026, you will have earned at least two-thirds of your credits for the first year of study, i.e. approximately 40 out of 60 ECTS. Only credits that are officially recorded on your academic transcript count.
• Income: Your family’s income affects your eligibility and the amount you receive, but there is no income threshold above which you would be excluded.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.

Applications must be submitted via the University’s ‘Studenti Online’ portal by 27 October 2026 at 12:00. Log in using your SPID credentials or, if you are a non-EU student without a SPID, using your institutional login details. Please ensure that your ISEE income statements are received by ER.GO by this deadline, unless you have already submitted them for the calculation of your tuition fees.

How realistic are your chances?

This incentive is aimed at a narrow group. You must have enrolled in a specific academic year and cleared two thirds of your first-year credits, so the eligible group is small. Awards go by a clear ranking of credits, grades and income. If you fit those conditions and have a solid first year behind you, your prospects are good, especially since a fixed pot is reserved for the chemistry class. Female students and those on lower incomes are weighted more favourably.
