University of Bologna - Subsidies for a degree in Chemical and environmental technologies and materials

What you get

You will receive a grant of one-off payment from the University of Bologna to study a STEAM subject (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics), including the Bachelor’s degree programme ‘Chemistry and Environmental and Materials Technologies’ (Chimica e tecnologie per l'ambiente e per i materiali). The amount of the grant is determined on an individual basis. The minimum amount is 200 EUR, and in previous award rounds the average amount was just under 597 EUR. Payment is made as a one-off sum, not monthly. How much you receive depends on your ISEE (an Italian measure of family income) and your gender. Women and students on lower incomes (ISEE up to 33,000 EUR) receive a higher proportion of the maximum amount set for their degree programme. For the Department of Chemistry as a whole (L-27), approximately 18,214 EUR will be distributed in this round.

Who can apply

• Where you study: You are enrolled on a STEAM degree programme at the University of Bologna, for example the ‘Chemical and Environmental Technologies and Materials’ programme (taught at Ravenna and Rimini).
• Study stage: You are now in your second year of study and enrolled for the first time in the previous academic year.
• Credits: By 30 September, you will have earned two-thirds of the credit points (CFU) for the first year of study, i.e. approximately 40 out of 60.
• Still enrolled: When applications are closed, you have not cancelled the course, nor have you switched to another course.
• Income proof: You must submit a valid ISEE to be eligible for university benefits. Students from the EU and the OECD who are unable to provide an Italian ISEE must follow a separate procedure via ER.GO.
• Nationality: Open to all nationalities.
• No double funding: This funding cannot be combined with the 20% bonus under the ER.GO scholarship scheme for female STEM students.

How to apply

Applications must be submitted online via studenti.unibo.it, and you will need to log in using SPID. The application deadline for this round is 27 October 2026 at 12:00. There will be no interview. Applicants will be ranked based on their credit points, their weighted average mark and their ISEE score.

How realistic are your chances?

This is not a single grant, but a pool of funds to be divided amongst eligible students; therefore, it is more important to meet the eligibility criteria than to stand out amongst a large number of applicants. If you are in your second year of one of the listed chemistry degree programmes, have earned the required credit points and have a low or medium ISEE score, you are very likely to receive a payment. Women and students on lower incomes receive a larger share. Make sure your credit points and marks from your first year of study are good, as both are taken into account in the ranking.
