Mobility Scholarships (Afya Moja project, University of Naples)

You will receive 1,000 EUR per month for 3 to 6 months for research work and further training at the University of Naples ‘Federico II’ in Italy. Your travel expenses will also be fully reimbursed: flights, train or bus journeys, as well as local travel to the airport or railway station. The scholarship is part of the ‘Afya Moja’ health and technology project, which is funded by the Italian Ministry of Universities and Research. The project links Italian universities with three partner universities in Benin.

Who can apply

• Level: You are a postgraduate: a PhD student, a junior doctor (a doctor undergoing specialist training) or a postdoctoral researcher.
• Your university: You are studying at one of the three partner universities in Benin: the University of Abomey-Calavi, UNSTIM or the National University of Agriculture (UNA).
• Nationality: You are from Benin.
• Field of study: Your field of study is veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences, medicine and surgery, engineering or social sciences.
• Where you go: You will spend the entire duration of your stay in Naples, Italy, at one of the host faculties.

How to apply

Please send your application as a PDF file by email to the project office at the University of Naples. You will need to provide a CV, a personal statement, your academic transcripts, a copy of your identity card or passport, and a letter of recommendation from a professor at your university in Benin. The application deadline is 10 March at 12:00 midday. A selection panel will assess your academic achievements and your letter of motivation (up to 20 points) and will then publish a ranking list.

How realistic are your chances?

This funding scheme is very narrowly defined: only PhD students from three specific universities in Benin, studying in five named subject areas, are eligible to apply. As a result, the pool of eligible applicants is small. If you clearly meet these criteria and submit a compelling CV and a well-targeted letter of motivation, your chances are good. The number of scholarships depends on the project funding available; where candidates have the same score, preference will be given to the younger applicant.
