Fondo Rita De Santo Alfano scholarship

You will receive your full university costs covered. The foundation will reimburse you for your annual tuition fees, taxes and contributions, and will cover the cost of your textbooks and study materials. There is no fixed monthly amount. The amount of funding depends on your actual costs and your family income. The scholarship is awarded for the official duration of your degree programme. It may be extended by 1 year if you write a challenging experimental dissertation. The selection committee may also provide funding for an internship or a course at another university, including an Erasmus placement abroad. The fund was established by Antonio Alfano in memory of his mother to help young people from Naples who have the ability but not the financial means to study.

Who can apply

• Where you live: You live in the municipality of Naples.
• Where you study: You are studying or would like to study for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at a university in the Italian region of Campania.
• Your grades: You have completed upper secondary education with a grade of at least 90/100 OR you are in your first year of university, have passed all your exams as scheduled and have a grade point average of at least 27/30, OR you hold a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade of 107/110 and wish to commence a Master’s programme.
• Languages: You are proficient in at least one foreign language to the extent that you can get by in it.
• Financial need: Your household income (as measured by the Italian ISEE indicator) is no more than 17,500 EUR per year.
• Field of study: Any topic is fine.
• Nationality: Applicants of any nationality may apply, provided they live in Naples and meet the other requirements.

How to apply

Please complete the Foundation’s application form and submit it together with your CV, proof of residence, academic transcript and ISEE income certificate. The application deadline is 15 July. If you are selected, you will take part in a motivational interview, during which your foreign language skills will also be assessed. Your ranking will be determined by the outcome of your interview, your school grades and your family income.

How realistic are your chances?

This grant is awarded on a highly selective basis. You must live in Naples, be studying in Campania, meet high academic standards and demonstrate genuine financial need; consequently, the pool of eligible applicants is small. Throughout the fund’s history, only 11 scholarships have been awarded to date, so places are limited. However, if you clearly meet the academic and income criteria and prepare for the interview, your chances are good.
