About this award / prize
Merit incentive at the University of Genoa
You will receive a discount of up to 400 EUR off on your annual tuition fees (the ‘contributo universitario’). The discount will be automatically applied to the third instalment. There are two options. In the first year of a Bachelor’s, Master’s or single-cycle degree programme, you will receive a discount of 200 EUR if you completed your previous degree with the highest grade (for example, 110/110). From the second year of study onwards, the University compiles a ranking of students for each degree programme and academic year based on their academic performance. The top-performing group receives a discount of 400 EUR off and the second-best group a discount of 200 EUR. The discount is granted by the University of Genoa itself.
Who can apply
- University: You are enrolled at the University of Genoa.
- Full time: Your study plan comprises at least 31 credits (CFU) for the year.
- On schedule: You are within the standard period of study and are not repeating a year or undertaking an additional year.
- Results: You achieved the highest possible final mark in your previous qualification for the first year’s tuition fees. From the second year of study onwards, based on the credits you have earned, your weighted average mark and any honours (lodi), you will be in the top or second-top performance group.
- Field of study: Open to all subjects.
- Nationality: All nationalities welcome.
- Fees paid: You have no outstanding fees.
- No overlap: You are not fully exempt from the fee, you are not a part-time student, and you do not yet receive a regional ALISEO grant.
How to apply
You do not need to submit an application. The university will automatically calculate the reduction based on your enrolment status and examination results, and will then deduct it from your third instalment of fees. If any examinations are missing or have been recorded incorrectly, you can report this by 31 January. From 1 March, the data will be considered final.
How realistic are your chances?
This is a merit-based award rather than a fixed grant; your chances therefore depend on how you perform compared with other students on your course and in your year group. If you are studying full-time, keeping to the timetable and are among the top performers in terms of credits earned and marks achieved, you have good prospects. As no application is required, the only real way to secure this is to achieve good exam results and ensure they are duly recorded.
